Ashdown Media report on Lendlease’s Health and Safety Culture conference

Updated: Dec 6, 2022

Australian giant appointed Ashdown to communicate firm’s conference on existing and future health and safety culture in Europe

One of the largest construction firms in the UK and the second biggest on its home turf Down Under, Leadlease is a name synonymous with the industry and one that undertakes large-scale headline projects.

In the early summer of 2022, Lendlease appointed Ashdown Media to attend and report on its Health & Safety Culture conference.

The two-day event was held in the grand surroundings of De Vere Latimer House Hotel in leafy south Buckinghamshire, and we were there to witness every presentation and each safety skit performed by a team of trained actors.

Our task was to take content gathered over the course of the two days and merge it into a single feature article. With an audience that stretched from the board room to the construction sites, this had to not only be supported by the facts demonstrated but also be fun and easy to read.

While reporting on the event, with a room full of senior management personnel, we took the opportunity to produce some spin-off interviews with those attending. We also obtained additional supporting information for the main article.

The final ten-page article was titled “One for all and all for none”, referencing the employees' desire to work as a single entity across the firm’s three platforms (Construction, Development, Integrated Management and Investment Management) and for no one to get injured while at work.

Directors and Project, Design, Health & Safety and Site Managers reflected on the historical importance of the firm’s health and safety legacy and how to improve it going forward by looking beyond just site safety and focusing on the mental health and engagement of employees as well.

Following completion and article sign-off, Ashdown was further instructed to create an Elevator Pitch to be presented to the board. This was a one-page executive summary of the event.
